Deformation of Impacting Interface of Electrically Charged Drops on Solid Surfaces

چکیده

Predicting the dynamics of an electrically charged drop impacting a solid surface is great importance in various industrial applications such as spray coating and painting. An decelerates immediately before touch-down by lubrication pressure intervening air. The build-up forms dimple resulting entrapment bubbles under drop. We measured visualized bubble formations using high-speed interferometry back-light imaging techniques focusing on effect electrostatic charge deformation. clarified that size decreased, kink became more flattened with increasing charge, which resulted forming micro-bubble band around central bubble. By comparing profile obtained images, we revealed air layer, thinner than 266 nm, raptures into small pieces microbubble while thicker layer collapses Replacing substrate from conductive to dielectric hinders decrease volume, confirming Maxwell stress acting between bottom plays crucial role determining entrapment.

Electrically Charged Conducting Drops Revisited

Since its publication in 1882, Rayleigh's work on electrically charged conducting drops has been widely quoted, but its rigorous derivation has not been given in the literature. By means of the domain perturbation technique, this work presents a rigorous derivation of Rayleigh's results, following his approach with Lagrange's equation. With the systematic procedure, it becomes explicit that the...

On the spreading of impacting drops

The energy budget and dissipation mechanisms during droplet impact on solid surfaces are studied numerically and theoretically. We find that for high impact velocities and negligible surface friction at the solid surface (i.e. free-slip), about one half of the initial kinetic energy is transformed into surface energy, independent of the impact parameters and the detailed energy loss mechanism(s...

Drops impacting a sieve.

We study experimentally the impact of liquid drops against thin plates pierced with small holes. When the drop is larger than the hole, different situations can occur: (i) at a small velocity, the drop is entirely captured by the plate; (ii) above a threshold speed, some liquid is ejected below the surface. We characterize this critical speed and these two different situations, focusing on the ...

Ring-Waves Generated by Water Drops Impacting on Water Surfaces at Rest

Radar observations of the ocean surface can be affected by impacting raindrops. Ring-wave measurements are presented for drops of 2.2 and 2.8 mm in diameter impacting on fresh and salt water surfaces initially at rest. They are based on the observation of the mirror image of a sharp edge on the perturbed surface. The retrieved wave profiles show a rather stable characteristic wavenumber (0.2 mm...

Water Drops on Surfaces

Water motion is a highly complex phenomenon. From ocean waves to raindrops, water is described by a wide range of shapes and is affected by a wide range of forces. This paper presents a physically-based method of modeling the latter phenomenon raindrops. This model can handle bodies of water with varying underlying terrain, as well as many different fluids, but cannot represent spray systems, w...
